Lake City, sits in Hinsdale County and has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century.

The town was named “Lake City” due to its proximity to Lake San Cristobal, and it became a vital supply center for miners working in the nearby hills. The Silver Boom brought prosperity to the town, but like many other mining communities, it faced decline when silver prices plummeted in the late 1890s.
