When I told my best friend I wanted to escape to the Denver Selfie Museum this weekend, her literal thoughts were:

I thought we were just going to go around, drink coffee, and look at pictures of selfies other people took.

What she and I got was a pleasant little fun-filled journey to Stout Street in Downtown Denver, where a little colorful secret resides.

Funny enough, the trip was very reminiscent of a past trip to Meow Wolf last year.

So before showing these images and giving you a snapshot of what’s inside, here’s what you need to know about planning your trip!

What is the Denver Selfie Museum?

The Denver Selfie Museum is a little fun-packed location that popped up in Denver in September 2020 and made a move to a bigger location in July 2021.

It is now attracting tons of people to take glamorous and instagrammable photos in well-lit and creative settings. There are 25 little exhibits to get your gram on in. The cheapest and most colorful photoshoot you’ll pay for.

This is a family-friendly location and great for kiddos. PS, they even allow small dogs too!

Getting to the Denver Selfie Museum

Nestled in the heart of downtown Denver, the Denver Selfie Museum is located at 1531 Stout St Suite 102, Denver, CO 80202.

This is a vibrant area of Denver has a wealth of shops, restaurants, and landmarks that you can add into your visit to the Denver Selfie Museum. This location is easily accessible and a perfect addition to a day out exploring the city whether you’re going solo, with friends, or with a family.

Transportation Options

Driving and Parking Information: For those driving, there are several parking options available nearby. Metered street parking is available, but it can be limited, especially during peak hours.

We paid $14 for garage parking.

For more convenience, consider using one of the several parking garages located within a short walking distance from the museum. [Insert names of nearby parking garages and their addresses.

Public Transportation Routes: The Denver Selfie Museum is well-served by public transportation. There are bus stops and light rail stops near by if you want to to make traveling downtown easier. For those who want to skip the traffic, taking the light rail in from the edge of town is also an option.

Check out the RTD-Denver Bus and Light Rail Schedules to plan your route.

Bike and Scooter Rentals: Denver is a bike-friendly city with bike lanes and paths galore leading to the museum. You can use bike-sharing services like Lyft or Lime for a quick and eco-friendly trip.

Buying Tickets to the Denver Selfie Museum

Tickets can be purchased online through the museum’s official website or at the door upon arrival. Buying tickets online is highly recommended to secure your spot, especially during weekends and holidays when the museum experiences high visitor traffic.

The standard ticket price for adults is $25 per person for one hour on weekdays and $29 per person on weekends.

Children ages 4 to 12 are $22 a ticket.

They do offer private events, but it might be best to call them to organize your trip since offers may not be readily available on the website.

And if you want to avoid any lengthy lines or crowded visits, here are some additional tips:

  • Pre-book Online If You Can: Secures your entry and saves you from the hassle of standing in long lines to get in. Simply choose your preferred time slot, and you’re all set.

  • Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is important, especially if you plan to spend a few hours at the museum. Bringing a refillable water bottle can keep you refreshed during your visit.

3 Tips for Taking The Best Photos

Capturing the best photos is all about leveraging the right techniques and tools. That being said, you don’t have to be a professional photographer to catch even the most candid shots.

With that, here are some other helpful tips to ensure you’re at the top of your selfie game.

Lighting Is Key

Lighting can make or break a photo, so it’s crucial to use it to your advantage. tWhile you’ll be indoors with little access to natural light, don’t worry, there are ring lights aplenty in practically every exhibit.

  • Avoid Over Exposure: You can always brighten up a dark photo, but you can’t always darken a bright photo. Be sure not to expose yourself to too much light,
  • Ring Lights and LED Panels: The museum is equipped with various lighting setups to enhance your photos. Pay attention to the direction of the light and avoid standing directly under overhead lights, as they can create unflattering shadows. Soft, diffused lighting tends to work best for selfies. Ring lights are especially good for creating a soft, pleasing glow.

Experiment with Different Angles and Poses

Everyone is different and various angles will flatter people differently. Experiment with various angles and poses when you’re taking your pics. Eventually, you’ll capture a photo that looks great.

Here are some other helpful tips on angles and poses to consider:

  • High Angles: Holding your camera slightly above eye level can help create a more flattering angle, making your eyes look larger and reducing the appearance of any shadows under your eyes. Don’t make it too high though or people will be able to tell you were born in the 80s or 90s.
  • Low Angles: For a dramatic effect, try taking photos from a lower angle. This can make you appear taller and can add a dynamic feel to the shot. These kind of shots can also make your body look longer than it appears.
  • Side Poses: Turning your body slightly to the side and looking back at the camera can create a more interesting and slimming profile.
  • Movement Shots: Adding a bit of movement to your poses, like twirling or jumping, can result in fun and lively photos. Just make sure to use a fast shutter speed to capture the motion clearly.
  • Prop Interaction: Use any available props to enhance your poses. Holding or interacting with props can make your photos more engaging and unique.

Photos and Video Editing Apps

There are so many programs out there for enhancing your photos after spending a day taking photos. What you choose to edit your photos are ultimately up to you, but here are some of my favorites:

  • CapCutIf you’re ever on TikTok, you’ll notice this app is used a lot to create highly unique videos. You can use this program to edit your videos more easily than Adobe Premiere. This is perfect for beginners.
  • Lightroom Mobile: Adobe’s Lightroom app allows you to fine-tune your photos with precision. Its advanced features, like exposure adjustment and color correction, can help you achieve the perfect look.
  • Canva: Great for adding text, graphics, and other design elements to your photos, Canva can help you create eye-catching posts for social media.

By following these tips and utilizing the right techniques and tools, you can ensure that your photos from the Denver Selfie Museum are not only fun but also professional-quality and ready to impress your followers.
