This area is a little close to my heart because it is a place I spent the first 18 years of my life. Royal Gorge is less than a 30-minute drive from where I grew up, Florence, Colorado. Royal Gorge, as many have come to find out is an area known for its stunning high suspension bridge, world-class rafting, fun bars and grills, and the newer establishment, the Dinosaur Expeditions.

I’ve gone to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park and have roamed the Fremont County territory for more than half my life, so I wanted more than anything to visit one of the newer additions to the Royal Gorge, the Royal Gorge Cabins.

So, let me take you on a ride through this incredible getaway close to home in the Royal Gorge Region.

What Are the Royal Gorge Cabins?

Royal Gorge Cabins is perfectly placed in view of the majestic Wet Mountains and the snow-topped Sangre de Cristos and Collegiate Mountains. They are a stone’s throw from the 8 Mile Bar and Grill and Echo Canyon River Expeditions, all of which lie under the same business umbrella.

The property is home to a variety of large and small luxury cabins as well as serene glamping tents that are only open in the summertime. These cabins are a rare and unique treat for people who are visiting the area but still want to add a little extra glam to the trip. So, if you’re not keen on roughing it outdoors for a camping trip or want to upgrade from the hotels in town to something a little fancier, this is the place to go.

Do your trip right by staying at the Royal Gorge Cabins, getting on the rapids with Echo Canyon, and having your vacation meals at 8 Mile Bar and Grill.

The Cabin Interior

Royal Gorge Cabins have 400+ square feet of luxury and design from top to bottom. Walking in, you’ll notice modern decor, large windows overlooking the Colorado Mountainscapes, and a large living space that you can relax easily in.

Each cabin has its own indoor and outdoor fireplace to cater to your warm nights in or cool evenings out on the patio barbecuing. All bedrooms are equipped with king beds for added comfort and a small TV perfect for movies and cuddling with your honey. The bathrooms come with a walk-in shower beautiful rock-tiled, and products in-shower from C.O. Bigelow.

The TVs are also ready to go when it comes to live streaming but unfortunately do not carry Netflix. However, if you are the owner of an Amazon Firestick, you can easily plug this in and watch your favorite shows if you’re looking for a chill movie night.

Those Glamping Tents Though!

Unfortunately, I was not able to see the interior of the Glamp Tents (but will try and get that insider info someday in the warmer months). Thankfully the GMs of the Royal Gorge Cabins showed me some stunning photos of the truly magical experience that is glamping in the Royal Gorge.

All cabins come with Queen beds and a rustic decor that gives a warm golden hue to the tent’s interior. There is a private porch outside where you can enjoy delightful sunsets and sunrises and a fire ring so you can make your obligatory s’mores.

There is free wifi and electric outlets for you to charge all your gadgets after whatever adventure you had that day and, ultimately, you that experience of camping without fully experiencing the “roughing it” culture of camping itself.

For this kind of stay, you must bring a cooler for whatever food and beverages you would like to bring with you and they recommend you bring some bug spray for your stay.

What About Breakfast?

I know I mentioned 8 Mile Bar and Grill was a great place to have your meals, but unfortunately, they do not do breakfast, and some of the restaurants may be closed depending on what time of year you decide to stay with Royal Gorge Cabins.

Luckily, the cabin you stay in is ready to go when it comes to drinking your morning coffee. They supply you with two large gold packets of Pikes Perk Coffee right from Colorado Springs. Each packet is enough for multiple cups of coffee for you and whoever is accompanying you on your stay. This should ready you for the drive to your breakfast destination.

For breakfast options, I recommend two places. Chuck’s Seasoned Grill, just a few miles from the Royal Gorge Cabins, or Mugs, one of Cañon City’s favorite breakfast spots. Both have incredible menus for breakfast but Mugs is the one that serves both breakfasts and has a great espresso bar if you’d like lattes or mochas.

Things to Do Near Royal Gorge Cabins

Obviously, if you have found the Royal Gorge Cabins, you’ve also found the many things there are to do in the Royal Gorge Region and Pikes Peak Region.

Below are some of the things you can do in the area to help you plan your trip there:

And if this isn’t enough, you’re not far away from Colorado Springs, where you’ll find even more to do during your trip to Colorado.

The architecture, the location, the convenience, and the atmosphere has made the Royal Gorge Cabins one of my favorite stays in Colorado thus far. It was a pleasure getting to stay in a place in Fremont County Area that boasts such luxury. It an unlikely and refreshing addition to the area that only enriches the value that exists in Cañon City, but has yet to truly be discovered and honored.
