How to Make Money Fast & Fund Your Passion for Traveling

How do you make money fast? If you’re one of those people who love to travel but can’t seem to find the funds to do it, I feel you. Whether it’s because you’re just starting your career, going through college, or your dream adventures are outrageously lavish and expensive, there are ways you can make money to get to where you dream of going, even in your current situation.

Working Full-Time or Part-time anywhere, you can still pick up small side gigs or projects that will help you make a few extra bucks. Pack that away in your piggy bank, save it for a rainy day, and watch your travel fund grow.

For the record, I’m not a huge fan of selling your services on places like Fiverr or Upwork. Those networks tend to pay way less than you deserve ESPECIALLY if you’re super skilled in your craft. Go for what you’re worth and don’t settle for those websites. I was making like $10 for a 1,000-word article. Not worth the amount of time you spend.

Below are some of my favorite ways to make extra money, many of which I discovered on Penny Hoarder (they have such good ideas). I’ll tell you why I like them, and why I think they are the best way of earning money.

Start Uber and Lyft Driving

Uber and Lyft driving is my favorite way to make money for travel and it’s 100% because of flexibility. I work a full-time job, and for many, that can mean 40 or more hours a week (depending on how hard you work). I love it because I don’t have to set any hard hours. I can go whenever I please and whenever I need to make a little extra cash. The good thing about Uber and Lyft is there is always a demand for a driver, so you’ll always make something.

On my best days, I make $25 an hour! And when I’m really rocking it, I can make $200+ dollars a week driving. This is relative to a contracting job, so make sure you track your mileage and keep gas receipts, so you don’t get punished during tax season.

Freelance Writing or Web Design

When I’m not Uber or Lyft Driving, I am usually doing some type of freelance writing or web design. You’re probably wondering how I have time to do anything other than work. I usually take weekends off y’all and I play hard for as hard as I work. My freelance and web design services aren’t as frequent as being a driver, but they pay higher. If you don’t know how to do either, there are ways to learn and practice, which is how we learn to do anything great.

When I write, I make $75 per article and do two articles a month. As a writer, I not only get paid, but I add to my value as a worker and writer. The same goes for web design. I’ll have these jobs less frequently but can make up to $1,000 doing web design and adding even more value to my skills.

Download a Few Apps

It’s not ideal, but I do it, especially when I need something for an upcoming trip. My two favorite and most profitable apps have been Shopkick and Job Spotter. Shopkick allows you to collect points for just walking into some of your favorite stores and scanning barcodes. And if you purchase the items on the list you’ve been scanning, you get even more points! Points will translate into gift cards to restaurants, stores, and much more. You can redeem them after reaching a certain amount of points. Job Spotter allows you to capture photos of hiring signs. They give up to $1.50 for capturing these photos and when you’re ready, you can redeem an Amazon gift card and go shopping for your favorite travel items.

Pick Up Bartending or Serving

Being a barista, server, or bartender is a good way to make money and really quickly. I personally loved working at Texas Roadhouse, because it was the most organized place to work and I made more tips than ever there. On your best nights, you can make about $100 and that’s in just a 4-hour time span. My only downside to this is it’s a little difficult to do if you already have a full-time job. Some people may get burnt out from working too much. On the other hand, if you are able to swing it and get a good schedule coordinated with your full-time schedule, you could be making anywhere from $100 to $400 extra a week. How’s that for your travel bank?

Rent Out Your Apartment

Another fast and efficient way to make some good money is to rent your place out on Airbnb. If you have a house or cute apartment, and you obviously know it’s cute, why not rent it out for a weekend while you’re away on a business trip or staying with your S.O.? Some people charge anywhere from $50 to $150 a night, but it depends on what type of location you live in. As you start to travel more, you will have more of an opportunity to rent out your space, and boom! Even more travel money will be on its way.

Sell Clothes and Other Items Online

eBay, Poshmark, and even Facebook Marketplace are fantastic ways to get rid of some items you rarely use and make a little extra money. They don’t have to be particularly special, because in someone’s trash treasure will be found. You can list items from $5 to $20 depending on their current condition and expected value.  Plus if you become a full-time traveler, you won’t need much stuff anyways.

So, there you have it! Some of the best and easiest ways to make money to fund your travel endeavors. Don’t waste another minute and get to make your extra money! Because life is just a waste unless you find some way to experience the beauties it has to offer.
